A Patient Mission

Devotional By Gabriel Marcus

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” - Philippians 4:6

Have you ever been so impatient that you couldn’t keep still? Have you ever been so impatient to the point of anxiety? Patience is something that we all struggle with and wish we had more of. Whether it’s the season we’re in or there’s a delay on the things we’ve been asking God for, we can find ourselves trying to take matters into our own hands. But that season of patience could be when God is trying to teach us something or grow us.

A lot of times it’s so hard to wait on God’s timing. But His timing is always best! Let’s look at two ways we can be patient with God’s timing.

1. Surrender it to God

“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God this is your true and proper worship.” Romans 12:1

When you sacrifice something to God it means you are surrendering it- putting it in His hands and trusting Him. This shows Him that you are willing to do whatever He wants you to do. When you finally surrender it to God, it allows Him to begin making changes in your life because you have given Him all of your burdens and complete control. Identify one thing you’ve been struggling to have patience with and consider surrendering it to God.

2. Receive His Perspective

“Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” Psalm 37:4

When you ask God to give you His thoughts and His perspective, you will begin to seek Him so deeply and so strongly that you will begin to think in the way He wants you to. God‘s plan for your life will start to become the desire of your heart and suddenly patience becomes easier.

You may be thinking, “What do these things have to do with patience?” Surrendering things to God will bring you peace and joy because you’re finally letting go of control and showing God that you want His plan for your life. And when you give Him your thoughts and receive His perspective, He will start to show you how to think higher in ways that you never thought were possible. This will change your life because you will start seeing things through the lens of Jesus.

When you tie all these things together, you will be equipped to have patience in your ministry, relationships, family and life situations. In every season of your life a peace that surpasses everything will guide you to put every care into God’s hands and not keep them in your own.
