Student Stories: Traveling with Bethany Creative

In November of 2018 Becca had the opportunity to travel with our church creative team to gather content for this year. Our 2019 Bethany Conference theme is “Next is Now” so the goal of this trip was to get as many photos and videos as possible that communicate that message. The team drove through Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas to get content from a variety of different environments and terrain.

Becca’s main role was being the talent in front of the camera, which was a little uncomfortable for her at first since she’s used to being on the other side of the camera. By the end of the trip she felt more at ease and even started having fun with it. Aside from being talent, Becca assisted the team in setting up and tearing down equipment for the shoots.

Becca says, “On this trip I learned how to work as a member of a team as well as what goes into preparing footage for a series. I was able to see all the work that goes into gathering material and all the planning and effort that is required to bring conference footage together.”

Her most unforgettable moment was being on top of Gloss Mountain. She says, “For me, being up there and looking out at the landscape was thought-provoking. I really started to think, what is ‘Next is Now’ and what was God speaking to me? Our time here is a vapor and every minute matters, everything we do matters it is time to take action like it does matter. Our time isn’t coming tomorrow or at some point in the future… Our time is now. Next is already here.”

Chris was also able to go on this trip. He says, “I was surprised that I was invited to go… I didn’t think I was going to be used as talent, so that was surprising to me. It was exciting.” The most memorable moment that Chris had from the trip was working with a little boy he met on a shoot. He put him up on his shoulders as a visual for “Next is Now” and he says that was a moment he’ll never forget.

Coming into Bethany College as a new student he says, “I didn’t think it was going to be as much hands-on… I didn’t know much about any of this stuff, so I’ve learned a lot. We have a lot of great people on staff that teach us a lot. Even apart from class time, if you ever have free time, you can ask them questions and they will make time to show you. I’ve learned to really dive in and take time to take that extra step.”
