Hearing God for The Really Big Decisions

Choices. We all have to make them. But how do you make the RIGHT choice when you have an unlimited amount of options?

For example, I love music. All kinds of music. I am an avid Spotify user, but the other day I found myself feeling anxious at the amount of choices I had before me. There were literally THOUSANDS of great listening options.

Which song do I want to listen to? Can I listen to more than one at a time? If I can only pick one, I'm missing out on all those other songs. If I listen to some old songs that I like, then I am missing out on something new that just came out. Cue the FOMO.

We live in an age of limitless options. Netflix gives you options. Amazon gives you options. There are 1,161 kinds of toilet brushes on Amazon! You would think having options is great. But unlimited options can leave you paralyzed with anxiety. As you get older, you start to make decisions for yourself because your parents are no longer directing your daily decisions. So how do you make the right choices? Like how do you choose the right career? Marry the right person? Go to the right college?

Luckily, we have the guiding voice of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

Isaiah 30:31: Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, "This is the way you should go," whether to the right or to the left.

Turn Right

Bro. Roy Stockstill, our founder here at Bethany Church, clearly heard the voice of God. As he was driving to work one day at the stop sign where he would usually turn left he heard the voice of the the Holy Spirit say to him, “Turn right” and he turned down Plank Road in Baker/North Baton Rouge and the Holy Spirit led him to the property that is now our Bethany North Campus. God told him he would start a church there... and the rest is history. Two words- TURN RIGHT- and one act of obedience. One simple choice to obey is what lead Bethany Church to be all that it is today.

Sometimes the voice of God catches us off guard. Sometimes it's abrupt and out of the blue. But when He speaks, may we all be quick to hear and obey. As you make the really BIG decisions for college, career, relationships, and whatever else is on your mind, we're praying that the same God that said "turn right" to Roy Stockstill will speak to you with the same clarity. And when he speaks, we pray that you will be quick to obey and make the move.
